pyx

pyx from the latin pyxis refers to a constellation in the southern sky. It represents a magnetic compass used for maritime navigation.
The Milky Way passes through the Compass, and its nearest neighbours are Antlia, Hydra, Puppis and Vela.
The Compass constellation can be found by drawing an imaginary line through the tail of the Great Dog to the opposite side of the Stern.
pyxis was introduced by the French astronomer Nicolas-Louis de Lacaille in the 18th century, and is one of the 88 modern constellations.
