A prestigious welcome ceremony
The official ceremony, held at the headquarters of theOrdre des Géomètres-Experts in Paris, honoured the new D.P.L.G. (Diplômés Par Le Gouvernement) graduates and the geomètres-experts recently admitted to the profession. Chaired by Jean-François Dalbin, President of the Ordre, the celebration was punctuated by solemn and symbolic moments, testifying to the importance of entry into this regulated profession. Minister Julien Denormandie, invited as patron of this class, added a prestigious dimension to the event, highlighting the crucial role of surveyors in regional planning and management.
In addition to the Minister, the ceremony was attended by a wide range of influential figures and eminent members of the Ordre. The event was attended by the Conseil Supérieur de l’Ordre des Géomètres-Experts, the training supervisors of the new graduates, and the members of the D.P.L.G. jury. Among the notable guests was Jean Berterreche, Chairman of TERIA, a key player in the field of geospatial solutions.
The ceremony not only highlighted the demanding careers of the award winners, but also reaffirmed the Ordre’s commitment to supporting its new members in their careers. It was a proud and solemn occasion, marking the start of a new adventure for these measurement professionals, guarantors of legal certainty for landowners and key players in sustainable regional development.
20 new D.P.L.G. graduates
Since 1946, the land surveyor diploma and the associated profession have benefited from official recognition and rigorous supervision by the State. This framework guarantees not only the quality of the surveyors’ skills, but also the legal certainty of their work. Today, the Géomètre-Expert Foncier diploma remains the only one still supervised by the State in the form of the D.P.L.G. (Diplômé Par Le Gouvernement), attesting to the high level of expertise required to practise this profession.
This year, 20 surveyors passed the final exam for their D.P.L.G., joining the ranks of this noble profession. The class of 2018 includes 4 women and 16 men. Although parity has not yet been achieved in this historically male-dominated field, the profession’s growing attraction to female talent is encouraging. This trend reflects the profession’s openness to diversity, reinforcing the dynamism and innovation within the sector.
Now that they have their diploma, these surveyors-topographers have the opportunity to take a new step in their career by becoming chartered surveyors. To do so, they will have to complete their practical training period, a key stage in their training, during which they will apply their knowledge under the supervision of experienced surveyors. Once they have taken the oath, which symbolises their commitment to respecting the ethical and legal principles of the profession, they will be able to practise on their own, as a partner in an organisation, or as an employee in a company or practice.
This path opens up a wide range of opportunities for these new graduates, who will be able to make a significant contribution to the sustainable development and management of the regions in which they work, in the service of local authorities and private individuals. Their expertise, rooted in high-level technical skills, will also be a valuable asset in the face of current challenges relating to urbanisation, environmental issues and land security.
The choice of the D.P.L.G. marked the end of my studies. I have a very special background, as I have a C.A.P., a B.E.P., a technician’s certificate and a B.T.S. in surveying and topography. So it’s the culmination of a course of study and, of course, a professional course, because I was employed in a surveyor’s office.
The difficulty of the D.P.L.G. is to combine studies, professional life and family life. This diploma gives me a certain freedom of choice in my future profession.
